Thank you to everyone who joined our December Saints & Sips session! Community members representing families from Pre-K through high school came together for meaningful conversation around literacy, math, and student opportunity.

Highlights included Literacy Lead Michele Chapin sharing insights on the READ Act and district literacy supports; Superintendent Liam Dawson outlining upcoming work connected to the 2022 Minnesota Math Standards and the Math Steering Committee; and Guidance Counselor Steve Witcraft providing an update on concurrent enrollment. The Class of 2025 saved nearly $170,000 in tuition, with the Class of 2026 on pace to exceed $200,000. Information was also shared about credentialing MSHS staff to expand college-in-the-schools offerings.

We appreciate the thoughtful questions, dialogue, and shared commitment to supporting all St. James students. Join us in January as Saints & Sips focuses on building a Culture of Care for students and staff.

Representative Marj Fogelman visited St. James Public Schools yesterday as part of MESPA and MASSP’s “Principal for a Day” initiative.
This program provides legislators with an opportunity to connect with school staff and administrators while gaining a firsthand look at daily school life.

During her visit, Representative Fogelman read to a Kindergarten class, listened to band rehearsal, and spent time engaging with staff about the strengths, challenges, and celebrations within our school community.

We appreciate her willingness to learn more about the great work happening in St. James!

🍂 This November brought many blessings for our students 🍂  Our students and staff tried out Berry Blast Smoothies 🫐🍇for our staff. Our students loved seeing the vibrant colors of the berries and even more so that red and blue food when mixed together, still make purple like when they paint! 🎨 We also served our traditional Hot Apple Cider for two classes - topped with fresh cut 🍎 apples and a sprinkle of cinnamon spice.  They ended the month with our famous Cold Brew Days for those that love a coffee fix 🧋  🍁We are truly T•H•A•N•K•F•U•L for everyone who helps bring our café cart to life each year — whether by sponsoring a beverage, donating items, or hosting outings that give our students meaningful experiences. Your kindness fills our hearts week after week. May your Thanksgiving be as full of blessings as the joy you bring to us.  Stay tuned next month: 🚂 ❄️ 🎅🏻 Any guesses on what’s coming? 🫢

On Friday, November 21st, 2025, the Northside Elementary 5th Graders attended the Kindness Retreat in Lake Crystal. This high-energy day focused on building empathy, strengthening friendships, and understanding how words and actions impact others.

Students took part in music, games, activities, and small-group discussions and they ended the day by making their own personal commitment to kindness.

We’re grateful for this meaningful day of learning and connection!

A huge congratulations to the students in Mr. Chapin’s 10th grade Health class! These students truly shined demonstrating impressive depth of knowledge on their chosen health topics and confidently sharing their learning with classmates and community health professionals. We’re equally proud of the enthusiasm shown by the rest of our students as they engaged, asked questions, and explored new ideas. A big thank-you to our community evaluators from Mayo Clinic, Madelia Health, and Watonwan County Public Health for supporting our learners and making this event even more impactful.
