Saints,
Dr. Steven Heil, Superintendente
Saints,
Yesterday, St. James Public Schools worked with the St. James Police Department and Watonwan County on a threat where a student said they were going to bring a weapon to the football game. During interviews and working directly with the family, it was determined that it was not a credible threat.
Late yesterday evening, a concerning social media post was made. Students again alerted administration. We worked directly with the St. James Police Department, Watonwan County, and the family last night along with earlier this morning to do interviews and assess the situation.
At this time, we know our schools to be safe and we are looking forward to a safe and exciting football game tonight. St. James Police Department and Watonwan County will be visible at and around school as well as the football game. We want to assure you that safety and security are a top priority for everyone. The individual involved will not be in attendance and we will be working with the family in the future.
I want to personally commend our students for immediately alerting administration and other school personnel so we could react swiftly.
In Saints pride,
Dr. Steven Heil, Superintendent
St. James Early Childhood is looking for a coordinator/teacher.
Saints,
Saints,
We’ve been getting the word out as a school district that June 19 is now a state holiday. The Governor signed it in under the same statue as July 4, Thanksgiving, Memorial, Labor, and other similar holidays. This is different from Veteran’s Day, MLK Day, Indigenous People Day (former Columbus Day - which was also changed), and other similar holidays.
Therefore, much like banks, county, and city, St. James Public Schools will close all buildings and activities for the day. In the future, much like July 4, if June 19 is on a Saturday, it is recognized on Friday, or if it is on a Sunday, it is recognized on Monday.
Have a wonderful Holiday weekend,
St. James Public Schools

Dr. Steven Heil, Superintendente
Saints Parents, Students, and Community Members,
Today, September 21, 2022, a number of Minnesota Law Enforcement agencies received “active shooter” phone calls at their local high school. The high schools followed their procedures and protocols for this type of emergency. Thankfully, there were no active shooters within these high schools. Unfortunately, these phone calls are part of a national trend of “hoax” phone calls of active shooters in schools, referred to as “Swatting.” There is an ongoing FBI investigation into these phone calls.
St. James Public Schools has procedures and protocols that will be followed in the event that this were to happen in St. James. St. James Public Schools, St. James Police Department, and Watonwan County Sheriff’s Department have a strong working partnership and will work together in these types of situations. As a school district, we will communicate with families using our Infinite Campus communication system.
The Health, Safety, and Welfare of each individual in St. James Public Schools is a top priority of the school district. As a community of Lifelong Learners, we wanted to make sure our families and community members were aware of this national issue affecting our schools.
In Saints pride,
Dr. Steven Heil, Superintendent
