St. James High School features a comprehensive and dynamic educational setting located in St. James, a rural farming community in southern Minnesota approximately 35 miles west of Mankato. The enrollment is consistently around 500 students, 8th through 12th grade. Our main construction took place in 1960 and houses an indoor pool. Also within the main building are four computer labs and a portable computer lab for classroom use.
Students attending SJHS have the benefit of being able to finish an entire year of college for free without any travel with college credit courses offered in our school in cooperation with MInnesota State University-Mankato. The classes and books are free and students can stay connected to classmates and a normal high school experience thanks to our own qualified teachers who instruct the courses. Students also have opportunities to earn vocational credit through articulated classes.
Our class offerings are structured around a research-based, student-friendly trimester schedule. Trimesters run twelve weeks with five blocks each day lasting around seventy minutes each. Trimesters provide flexibility for student choices and they can take up to fifteen classes each year. As such we feature more electives than any school our size in southern MInnesota.
Parents can stay involved with their child's education and view daily assignments, tests, and attendance records through our Infinite Campus student information system.
Our music department includes three bands, and three choirs as well as several smaller performance groups. The majority of our faculty have completed a masters program or done extensive academic work beyond their basic degree. We offer eighteen athletic sports, fall and spring plays, Mock trial, CHYLI, as well as many other groups to provide participation opportunities for students of all interests and abilities.
